Abbey Sands is over half a mile of sandy beach, close to Torre Abbey and running parallel to Torbay Road. Being West of the Pavillion you're never far from a hot dog or an ice cream here. As it is such a popular beach it does get busy in the Summer months and is not as secluded as other beaches listed below. Anstey's Cove offers good bathing as does it's Northern neighbour Redgate Beach. Both beaches run from North to South and may be accessed from Anstey's Cove Road, they are split by Devil's Point which has great sea views. Just South of Anstey's Cove you can pick up Bishop's Walk a well trodden footpath that leads in a southerly direction along the coastline to Ilsham Marine Drive junction with Bishop's Close. The walk is about two miles but feels like less because the scenery is quite beautiful.Babbacombe Beach is about half a mile of sand and shingle running from West to East. The beach is close to Babbacombe Theatre and popular hillside pubs and cafes with seaviews. Closer to Babbacombe Beach you will find a cafe and a pub (the Cary Arms). This is an ideal spot for diving as the bay is shallow and secluded.
Meadfoot Beach is a large pebble and sand strip that runs from the West to the East past Daddyhole. Meadfoot Sea Road runs parallel to the beach, parking is available in the road and nearby at the junction with Ilsham Marine Drive where there is a metered car park. You will find cafes and shops close by where pedalos and boats can be rented. Oddicombe Beach runs from South to North and is North of Babbacombe Beach. The beach is an expanse of sand and stone where deckchairs, floats, pedalos and boats can be rented. Also available are free changing cabins. You can take the Cliff Railway in the Summer months (Easter to September) from Oddicombe Beach to Babbacombe Cliffs to experience spectacular views. |
